Tigers lose against Huntington, Portsmouth West

The baseball season of the McClain Tigers continued last week as they lost on the road to Huntington on Wednesday (May 8) and on Friday (May 10) at home to Portsmouth West. 

On Wednesday, the Tigers lost 10-0 to Huntington, collecting two hits, one walk and one error. Huntington totaled eight hits, four errors and walked nine times. 

Huntington scored three runs in the bottom of the first, followed by two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth for the run-rule win over the Tigers. 

The Tigers had Cohen Six finish 1-for-2 and Owen Sykes also finish 1-for-2. Eli Douglas forced a walk for McClain.

On Friday, the Tigers lost by a 12-8 score at home to Portsmouth West. 

PWHS scored one run in the top of the second, followed by a run in the top of the fourth, three runs in the fifth, a five-run sixth inning and two runs in the top of the seventh. McClain had one run in the fifth, followed by a seven-run sixth inning. 

For the game, PWHS collected 14 hits and three errors, while McClain had 10 hits and four errors. 

Andrew Potts led MHS at 3-for-5 with two doubles, one run and two RBI. Teammate Jayden Allison was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Seth Weller finished 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI, while Cohen Six went 1-for-4. 

The Tigers also had Kaden Penwell finish 1-for-4, Owen Sykes was 1-for-2 with a walk and Connor McCune was 1-for-3 with one run and one walk. 

Benny Vangundy collected two runs and a walk, while Carter Nelson scored a run and walked once. 

MHS had five pitchers in the game, with Douglas pitching one inning, allowing two runs (nine earned) on one hit and no walks with one strikeout. Potts pitched 3.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Six pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Penwell pitched 0.1 inning, allowing two earned runs on one hit and a walk. McCune pitched 0.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and no walks.

The two losses move McClain’s overall record to 9-15.
