Lady Lions fall to West Union; rebound to defeat Peebles in SHAC games

Monday, Feb. 9, the Fairfield Lady Lions lost a Southern Hills Athletic Conference home game to the West Union Lady Dragons, 51-33 at Grandle Gymnasium.
FHS trailed 15-8 after the first quarter, and following WUHS winning the second frame at 11-6, the Lady Dragons held a halftime lead of 26-14.
West Union also outscored Fairfield in the third quarter at 12-5, and the fourth frame saw Fairfield do the same to West Union at 14-13.
Rilee Quickle led Fairfield with 11 points as she made two 3-pointers, two two-pointers and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. She also had five rebounds, one assist and seven steals.
Vivian Henninger totaled eight points off three two-point baskets and two made free throws. She added nine rebounds, four steals and a block.
Isabelle Hale ended the game with six points (two 3-pointers), five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Scoring three points was Brya Fauber (a 3-pointer), plus she added one assist and two steals.
Meri Jackson also scored three points with a two-point basket and made a free throw, plus she had three rebounds. Landyn Hodson finished with two points, one rebound and one steal. The Lady Lions also had Addison Cannon with two rebounds, while Corinne Tolle collected one rebound.
As a team, the Lady Lions had totals of seven two-pointers, five 3-pointers (Quickle 2, Fauber 1, Hale 2), and they were 4-of-14 from the free-throw line. Fairfield also had 26 rebounds (eight offensive), seven assists, 17 steals and one block.
West Union’s leading scorers were Anabelle McIntosh and Violet Randolph with 11 points each and Kaydence Cook with 10 points.
WUHS also had final scoring totals from: Madison Stout (5), Jocelyn Hall (8), Madison White (3) and Nina McCann (3). WUHS totaled nine 3-pointers, 16 two-point baskets and they were 4-of-7 from the free-throw line. They also had 38 rebounds (nine offensive), 16 assists, 11 steals and two blocks.
West Union finished with 24 turnovers, and Fairfield had 19 turnovers.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Lady Lions of Fairfield defeated Peebles, 44-367 at FHS.
FHS trailed 10-8 after the first frame, but came back with a 14-9 second frame for a halftime score of 22-19 with Fairfield in front.
The Lady Lions won the third frame at 9-6, and the fourth quarter saw Fairfield win that eight-minute span at 13-12.
Rilee Quickle led Fairfield with 17 points, followed by both Isabelle Hale and Vivian Henninger with six points each.
The Lady Lions also had Brya Fauber total five points, and Meri Jackson had four points in the win. Scoring two points each for FHS were Landyn Hodson, Jaeden Drury and Addison Cannon.
After the two games, Fairfield is now 6-7 in the SHAC Division II standings (second place) and 12-10 overall.
