In the Fairfield Lions’ season opener for 2025, they fell to non-conference foe Clinton-Massie by a 2-0 score at Fairfield High School.
The Falcons led 1-0 at halftime.
At goal for Fairfield were sophomore Anderson Humphreys finishing with eight saves, and senior Quentin McIntosh ended with one save.
The two goals for the Falcons were scored by seniors Noah Hawk and Daniel Norman. Sophomores Jackson McGraw and Jackson Randolph each were credited with an assist.
At goal for the Falcons was senior Chase Malatt with four saves.
“We are young, but we have some great senior leadership with Quentin McIntosh,” head coach Jacob Alexander said. “It was a hot evening, and we kind of ended up with a couple players getting cramps due to the heat, and we had a couple players with bumps and bruises, so we were adjusting things on the fly.
“I feel like we outshot them, but we just couldn’t get one to go in. I think if things play out a little differently, we have a better opportunity, but we just couldn’t put one in.”
Alexander also talked about some of his players and their performance.
“Anderson Humphreys in goal saved us a lot,” Alexander said. “He was pretty solid back there. The boys captains Quentin McIntosh and Joel Matthews, they really battled. Joel was one with the bumps and bruises, and I don’t know how well he could really run, but he said he was fine, battled through it, played some center back for us and that allowed us to get a little different look at top with Quentin, who is normally out center back.
“We are building. This is a season where we are building through. We have two returning seniors, one returning junior and a lot of freshmen and sophomores, and new players.”
Next for the Lions (0-1) is a home non-conference contest against Highland County counterpart, the Hillsboro Indians (0-1), at 4:30 p.m.
