Fairfield loses to MTHS; rebounds to defeat Whiteoak

The Fairfield Lady Lions traveled to Miami Trace High School for a non-conference game against the Miami Trace Lady Panthers, where FHS lost by a 12-11 score. 

Miami Trace erased a 6-1 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Fairfield regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning at 9-8 with a three-run inning. 

With two out and no one on base, Jorgia Smith doubled, Avery Morrow walked and Whitlee Morrow was safe on a bunt single. The throw at first was wild, and Smith and Avery Morrow scored runs. Whitlee Morrow also scored a run on a second throwing error.

Miami Trace scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead at 10-9, but Fairfield came back once again to take the lead back at 11-10 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning.  

Ally Maynard drew a walk to lead off the inning and promptly stole second base. Jobey Hattan singled to drive home Maynard, then stole second base (her third of the game). Jorgia Smith came up with a big two-out single to centerfield to drive in Hattan.

Miami Trace rallied to regain the lead at 12-11 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fairfield also rallied in the top of the seventh inning as Rilee Quickle singled with two outs and stole second base, but Fairfield failed to get the timely hit.

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Quickle (3-for-5, double, triple, one run, three RBI), Ally Maynard (sac fly, one walk, one run, one RBI), Hattan (4-for-4, triple, two runs, one RBI, three steals), Kelsie Crowder (walk),  Alyssa Bales (walk, one run), Smith (3-for-4, double, two runs, one RBI), Avery Morrow (1-for-2, two walks, three runs) and Whitlee Morrow (1 -for-3, one run).                   

Quickle (14-2) suffered the loss for Fairfield this afternoon after winning 14 consecutive games. In six innings, she allowed six earned runs, 12 hits, no walks, and she finished with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Lions returned to Southern Hills Athletic Conference play as they traveled to Whiteoak High School in Mowrystown to take on the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on a beautiful day for softball where FHS defeated Whiteoak, 10-0 in six innings.
 
Rilee Quickle was dominating by pitching her second shutout of the season while striking out a career high 15 batters in the six-inning game. 

Fairfield got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Quickle led off the game with a double down the left field foul line. Ally Maynard had an infield single as Quickle advanced to third base. Jobey Hattan singled to score Quickle, and a throwing error also scored Maynard and Hattan. Carly Sanders walked and scored on a single by Kelsie Crowder.  

Fairfield added a run in the top of the second inning. With one out, Maynard singled and stole second base. Maynard advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Crowder to shallow centerfield.

The Lady Lions took a 6-0 lead with another run in the top of the third inning as Jorgia Smith doubled to the fence in centerfield and advanced to third base on a double by Avery Morrow. Whitlee Morrow walked to load the bases. Smith scored on an infield fly that fell untouched.

FHS erupted for four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Maynard was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and stole second base. Sanders drew her third walk of the game. Crowder was safe on an error to score Maynard. Alyssa Bales walked, and Smith was safe on an error as Sanders, Crowder and Bales all scored.

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats bunched three hits together in the second inning to load the bases with two outs, but Quickle struck out the next batter to end the inning. Quickle also faced a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the sixth inning, but got the final out of the game with her 15th strikeout.

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Quickle (1-for-4, double, one run, one RBI), Maynard (2-for-3, HBP, three runs), Jobey Hattan (1-for-3, one run, one RBI), Sanders (three walks, two runs), Crowder (1-for-3, SAC, one run, three RBI), Bales (two walks, one run), Smith (1-for-3, double, one run), Avery Morrow (1-for-2, double), Whitlee Morrow (walk), Chloe Spangler (1-for-2) and Ava White (walk).                

Quickle (15-2) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield, pitching six innings, with four hits, no runs, no earned runs, two walks and 15 strikeouts.
