Jane Stowers, Southern Ohio Genealogical Society

The Southern Ohio Genealogical Society will host “Writing Your Family History: Telling a Story about the Past” Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at 1487 North High Street, Hillsboro. The program is presented by Betty E. Crum.

Your ancestors are so much more than just statistical data, i.e. birth, marriage, death, children, etc. collected on family group sheets. They lived lives, experienced trials and joys, moved, had jobs and the list goes on.

Have you ever wanted to turn that sterile family research data that you have collected on your family into an interesting, readable and compelling family narrative? If so, you will definitely want to attend this informational meeting presented by SOGS on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m.

The presenter, Betty Crum, is one of our own SOGS members. She and her husband have written and published 10 family history books telling the story of their families and others. Neither had ever written a book in their life until about 20 years ago. She says the goal is not the unimaginative listing of facts about your family, but learning what those statistical sources can reveal about your ancestor and how to utilize them in a story format.

Crum says, “You too can write and publish your family history and leave a legacy for future generations.” Come learn how on Thursday evening, April 11.
