President Lynn Lumen called the June 2026 meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club to order.

After stating the Pledge of Allegiance, 16 members and one guest answered the roll call question "do you have red, white and blue flowers for the 4th?"

Some members have all three, others are working on expanding their palette.

The tip was: "May whispers, 'Plant it all!'" and June says "Well, that was ambitious."

Ruth Anna gave the treasurer's report. Annual dues were collected.

Mercedes Heller made a motion to authorize Cindy Roche' Hillsboro Garden Club vice president and assistant treasurer, to carry out any and all matters regarding the club's CDs held at NCB Bank. Judith Stivender seconded the motion and all members voted in favor. The motion passed.

Betty Ann Walker displayed the beautiful blossoms of a white hydrangea.

Judith updated members on the 2026 OAGC convention held earlier in June at Deer Creek Lodge.  Judith won a number of awards including a hat she decorated which placed first in its class. The title of the class was "4th of July," and the design was named "Crown of Independence."

Lynn updated members on the proposed July 2027 garden show. Details to follow.

It was suggested the club submit a copy of its current bulletin to be included in the time capsule which will be buried in front of the courthouse as part of the Hillsboro Ohio America 250 Celebration in July.

Judith gave a tutorial on "parallel design" using day-lilies from a ditch and a few Hosta leaves from her yard.

The meeting was adjourned, and we enjoyed a delightful meal courtesy of hostesses Nancy Baldwin and Shelly Rayburn.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Floral Hall at the fairgrounds. All gardeners are welcome to join us.
