Candidates on a listening tour
On July 12, Democrats and independents, friends and neighbors are invited to join three state candidates on the patio at The Porch in Hillsboro. From noon-2 p.m., Highland County residents can speak up and take the opportunity to share their concerns, issues and ideas for Ohio state government with the individuals who will be acting for them.
Amy Wright is running for a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives representing newly drawn District 91, which includes Highland, Fayette, Pike and western Ross counties.
Brian Deer is running for the sprawling, nine-county, District 17 state Senate seat currently held by Shane Wilkin.
Don Leonard is running to represent Ohio’s 15th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, a seat currently held by Mike Carey.
The event is casual, but the purpose – listening to voters – is serious. Hosted by local political action committee, Unity in Action, spokesperson Janis Snyder said, "These candidates want voters to be included in the decisions that affect their lives. Because of the critical election this November, real participation matters even more. We want every one to be aware and informed about the individuals who are committed to representing you and your family."
There is ample parking in back of The Porch CarryOut and Grill, 421 N. West Street, dress is casual and there is no charge for participating.
