Peace Lutheran Church hosting Oktoberfest, anniversary celebration Oct. 8

Peace Lutheran Church is planning to honor their German heritage and their 45 years of existence in Highland County with an Oktoberfest celebration. This joyful gathering will be held Oct. 8 from 3-8 p.m.

They will serve an abundance of homemade traditional foods to share with the congregation, former members of the church and special guests.

The congregation has received many blessings during their 45 years.

Their first place of worship was at the 7th Day Adventist Church under the leadership of the mission Pastor Tom Heil. The second location was at the corner of Josie Avenue. After a few years, the congregation outgrew that building, and one of the members suggested the purchase of property on Harry Sauner, a newly developed road, next to the Star Cinemas Theater, which became their next place of worship.

A construction company, design and financing was next step. The theater became the place for worship until the present building was completed. Services were held in the large theater, and Sunday school for the different ages was held in the smaller theaters.

The relationship with Star Cinemas has continued for many years. When they have their free movies for children in the summer, Peace invites the children and their families to come to Peace for a free lunch. This is how Peace has became known as The Weenie Wednesday Church.
