A wee child

I just got here.
I took a deep breath and opened my eyes, and oh my!
I have no idea what I'll do tomorrow.
I can't even imagine what tomorrow might bring, but there are some things I do know.
I know the warmth of my mother's arms.
I know the songs my father sings.
I know that if I am a teacher, I will teach joy,
and if I am a dancer, I will fly.
I know that if I become a firefighter, I will help as many people as I can,
and if I'm a pilot, I will greet people all across the world.
Perhaps I'll be a farmer and feed folks near and far.
Or maybe I'll become a lawyer and stand for those who need help standing.
I might be a scientist and discover things still unknown.
Or maybe I'll become an artist, and capture beauty, and then share it everywhere.
If I join the circus, I'll ride a unicycle on the high wire and juggle oranges as the crowd below smiles up at me.
If I'm an athlete, I'll train as hard as I can and discover my limits, and then I'll train even harder.
If I become a craftsman, I'll make the most beautiful things for people to bring into their homes and treasure.
Maybe I'll study medicine and become a doctor and help those who are hurting.
Or maybe I'll learn how to work a lathe and a mill and I'll fashion the most perfect parts that need fashioning.
Perhaps I'll become a writer or a journalist, and I'll tell stories that need telling.
Really, I don't know what tomorrow might bring.
And that is OK.
For now, I'll just lie here in my mother's arms as my father holds her and sings to us both.
I know warmth.
I know love.
And I will come to know this world.
With a smile!
So happy to welcome our newest grandchild!
