With a mix of precipitation from rain and freezing rain to sleet and snow, crews from all eight ODOT District 9 facilities have begun treating the state highway system for ice and snow today. Crews were dispatched during the overnight hours to patrol and begin pre-treatment efforts before the storm moved into southern Ohio.
Currently, the area is receiving mostly rain and freezing rain, mixed with light snow in some areas. Drivers are reporting routes to be wet and slick, with icy spots present on bridges and overpasses.
"We are well-prepared and well-equipped to combat this storm, and as our crews continue their efforts throughout this event, it is important that motorists pay heed to the need for additional caution," said District 9 Deputy Director Jim Brushart.
In addition to the department's "Ice and Snow...Take it Slow" message,
drivers are reminded "Don't Crowd the Plow."
Conditions change minute to minute and mile to mile, so drivers will want to be prepared, keep informed and stay alert when traveling during inclement weather.
