Wilmington OSHP Post investigating two-vehicle serious injury crash involving a Highland County deputy

Wilmington – The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash involving two vehicles. 

The crash occurred on April 11, 2026, at approximately 12:09 a.m. on U.S. Route 62, near Surber Lane, in Liberty Township, Highland County.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Blake Mallow, 21, Sabina, was
traveling northbound on U.S. Route 62. 

A 2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, operated by Danny Strain, 70, Greenfield, was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 62. The investigation shows that Mr. Mallow travelled left of center and struck Mr. Strain head-on.

Mr. Mallow and Mr. Strain were transported to Highland District Hospital with serious injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police, Paint Creek Fire and EMS, and T&G Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
