Weastec presents $25,000 to Hillsboro City Schools

Weastec celebrated 25 years in Hillsboro Tuesday with a catered luncheon and community recognition.

Following the luncheon, catered by Ponderosa, Weastec presented a $25,000 donation to Hillsboro City Schools, funds that will be used for the high school's new track and soccer fields and academic improvements.

Weastec Senior Vice President Bill Smith said the donation reflected $1,000 for each of Weastec's 25 years in the city.

Former Hillsboro mayor Betty Bishop and former president of Hillsboro City Council Dick Zink attended the luncheon, as well as Bob and Dorothy Hodson, Jim Gibbs of Gibbs and Associates, and Les and Karen Bloedel.

"Weastec has always been a strong community supporter," said Hillsboro High School Principal Jason Snively. "On behalf of Hillsboro High School, I want to say that we are very grateful for this donation."

Hillsboro City Schools Superintendent Rick Earley said the $25,000 contribution will be divided between athletics facilities and academic improvements.

"We're putting $15,000 toward the track (at Hillsboro High School) and $10,000 for upgrades in the science lab," Earley said.

Earley also thanked Weastec for its generosity.
