Republican Vickie Warnock was re-elected to the Highland County Treasurer's seat in the general election Tuesday evening.
Warnock will begin her second term on Jan. 2, 2013 as she defeated Democratic candidate Gary Heaton 10,109 to 6,252.
"I would like to say thank you to the people of Highland County for re-electing me as your Highland County Treasurer," Warnock said.
"I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and my husband, family, friends and co-workers for all of their support. I look forward to and consider it a privilege to serve Highland County another four years."
Heaton is a former Highland County commissioner. He was defeated in his bid for re-election in 2010 by current commissioner Jeremy Shaffer. Heaton is a retired state trooper from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
"I want to thank all the voters who showed their support for me during this campaign and all the other campaigns I have engaged since 2002," Heaton said. "The support I received from all sides of the voting electorate was heartfelt.
"I am disappointed in my loss for the office of county treasurer. I would not have run for the office if I did not think there needed to be fundamental changes to the fiscal offices of the county and that I could effect those changes.
"I also want to thank my wife, without whose support, advice and encouragement, my campaigns for public office would not have been possible. Edith's love for me kept me going during all the ups and downs of a campaign. Again, thank you to all the citizens of Highland County."
