Two-vehicle crash leaves one dead, one hospitalized

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – A two-vehicle collision at Route 247 south of Hillsboro has resulted in one fatality, according to Highland County Coroner Dr. Paul Terrell.

One person was killed in the crash that occurred Saturday afternoon near Buckley Road in Washington Township, and another person was transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Michael Burns, 58, of Seaman was driving southbound on Route 247 when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle in the northbound lane.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

Burns hit a pickup truck driven by Scott Hargett, 32, of Seaman. Hargett was flown to Miami Valley Hospital.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reported the highway closed at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday. ODOT reported the roadway re-opened to traffic at 12:05 a.m. Sunday.

Local law enforcement, firefighters and EMTs responded to the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
