TEA Party hosts commissioner candidates forum

Local voters will have a chance to hear from the candidates for Highland County Commissioner at a forum sponsored by the Highland County TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party group.
The event will be held Monday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC building in Hillsboro.
All six candidates who have filed petitions have been invited to attend and speak to the public about questions regarding Highland County’s future, ideas or plans for development, budgetary restraints and the local economy. This forum is being made available to the public so that voters will be better prepared to cast an informed vote in the Democratic and Republican primary elections on March 6.
Hillsboro resident Joel Tucker had taken out petitions to run as an Independent, and he did not have to file before March 5. However, Tucker told The Highland County Press on Monday that he has withdrawn from the race.
Tucker thanked the people who had signed his petitions and who has supported him thus far.
"Right now, in the best interest of the public, we need to focus right now on the candidates who have filed their petitions."
There are two commissioner seats to be filled this year. Incumbents Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst are candidates again, along with Steve Cowdrey, Brenda Losey, Randy Mustard and Josh Patton. The winners in their respective primary elections will then face the voters again in the November general election.

[[In-content Ad]]Early voting for the March 6 primary begins Jan. 31, and will last through 6 p.m. March 2. The deadline to register to vote for the March 6 primary election is Feb. 6. Ohio's county boards of elections will begin sending out absentee ballots that have been requested on Tuesday.
