Sunday storm knocks tree into Woodland trails home

Winds and thunderstorms moving through Highland County Sunday evening caused a large tree to fall on a Paint Township home, adding more damage to an already storm-ravaged area.

According to Keith Giffin of the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, crews from the district's Station 2 in Paint Township received an emergency call at approximately 6:53 p.m., reporting that a large tree had fallen on a home in Woodland Trails.

"High winds that came through the area knocked down a tree about 50-feet tall and three feet in diameter," Giffin said. "It fell into the back portion of the house."

According to Giffin, the three occupants were at home at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported.

"The tree knocked down a section of the wall and shifted the roof," he said. "There were shingles on the roof that were buckled on the opposite corner of the house from the tree."

Firefighters made sure there were no injuries, and then turned the electric off to the house.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

When an initial thunderstorm and high winds moved through the area Friday evening, several incidents of damages were reported, including trees that had fallen onto cars and homes.
