The Highland County Cattleman’s Association and Highland County Beef Queen Tori Walker completed the 2012 “Summer of Giving” project on July 9, with donations made to five area families.
According to Walker, one needy family in each of the five public school districts in Highland County received food and clothing donations.
Donations were collected through July 9 for school supplies, clothes, toys, food, gift cards and cash.
The Bright Local Food Pantry, Union Stockyards, NCB of Hillsboro, Southern Hills Community Bank in Leesburg, WW Cleaners in Greenfield, Higgins Steel Roofing, and the Highland County
Cattlemen’s Association served as collection points.
"I would like to thank all of these businesses and organizations for serving as collection points," Walker said. "I also want to thank: the Highland County community for all of their donations and support; the Highland County Cattlemen's Association for their help and support; the contact people at the schools who helped identify families in need; Principal Bob Schumm of Greenfield Elementary; Principal Jeri Earley of Bright Elementary; Secretary Terri Boyle of Fairfield Elementary; Toni Lewis of Hillsboro City Schools; and Mary Washburn of Lynchburg-Clay Elementary.
"We collected donations of summer toys, canned or boxed foods, school supplies, clothes, household supplies and money," Walker said. "Numerous donations were collected, as well as over $825. We hope that this helped make the families' summer a little bit more fun and hope that it makes going back to school a little easier."
