State Highway Patrol investigating fatal traffic crash in Highland County

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred in Highland County.

On Oct. 21 at about 4:30 p.m., a 2016 Nissan Rogue driven by Debbie Westfall, 60, of Lynchburg, was traveling north on U.S. 62 near Custer Road. As Westfall slowed to turn left, her vehicle was struck by a northbound 2011 Freightliner truck driven by a 17-year-old. After the impact, Westfall’s vehicle went off the west side of the road. Debris from the crash struck a southbound Ford F-150, causing minor damage.

Paint Creek Fire & EMS and University of Cincinnati Air Care responded, but Westfall was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old driver of the Freightliner had minor injuries. The driver of the F-150 was not hurt.

The road was closed for the investigation and reopened shortly after 8 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by Paint Creek Fire & EMS, the Highland County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation and UC Air Care.
