Highland-134 Now Open Following Bridge Replacement
Chillicothe (Thursday, July 29, 2010) – Working to expedite a culvert replacement project on state Route 134 in Highland County, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have completed major operations, and the route is now open to traffic.
“Working with the contractors and ODOT’s Office of Contracts, we were able to accelerate the start of this project which, ultimately, led to most work being finished well in advance of the scheduled completion date,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director James A. Brushart. “This is very good news, and we are pleased with the progress that was made during construction.”
Crews from BCC Ohio, Inc. have being working at the route’s 8.39-mile marker north of Buford and just south of S.R. 131 since the middle of June to replace an aging, deteriorated culvert with a pre-cast concrete box structure.
Although the project was programmed to take place this year and the route was scheduled to be closed during construction, crews from ODOT’s Highland County Highway Maintenance Facility were forced to close S.R. 134 in May after flash flooding caused the culvert to collapse and the pavement to be undermined.
The route was reopened late yesterday, July 28, nearly seven weeks ahead of the scheduled September 15 completion date.
BCC Ohio, Inc., of New London, Ohio was awarded a contract in the amount of $170,618 to replace the structure, and although crews have minor finishing work to complete, there should be little to no impact to traffic.
