Spine specialist joins Adena Bone & Joint

Ashish Upadhyay, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon trained and specializing in spine surgery and the treatment of spinal disorders, has joined Adena Bone & Joint. He has received extensive training in Orthopedic and Spine Surgery, training in three countries.

“The spine is one area that the disease and pathology of which has a much longer lasting impact on person’s quality of life,” said Dr. Upadhyay. “Spine disease affects not just the spine, but also the upper and lower extremities. A person with a disease of the spine may not be able to walk or use their arms or legs, even though those limbs may be fine. I want to help my patients get back to their normal life and contribute productively to their families and the society as a whole.”

Born and raised in New Delhi, India, Dr. Upadhyay graduated from medical school and received his initial training in Orthopedic Surgery. He later moved to Great Britain where he trained at some of the most prestigious centers for Orthopedic and Spinal Surgery. While training in the United Kingdom, he passed the membership examination of the historic Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

After receiving training in the United Kingdom, he came to the U.S. where he performed his Orthopedic Residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

He most recently completed a fellowship in Spine Surgery at the Leatherman Spine Center, in Louisville, Kentucky. The Center is one of the oldest institutions performing spinal surgery in the United States.

Dr. Upadhyay also trained at the University of Louisville, and the Kosair Children’s Hospital, where he received extensive training in the treatment of degenerative spinal disorders, spinal deformities including pediatric and adult scoliosis, spinal tumors and fractures of the spine.
