Smith arrested on armed robbery charge

A Greenfield man charged in the first-degree felony armed robbery of a local gas station has been arrested.

Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester said the suspect, Levi Smith, was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

"He was taken into custody," Hester said. "We found him hiding in a house in the 300 block of McClain Avenue, without incident."

He is being held in the Greenfield jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. He is scheduled for arraignment in Greenfield County Court on Friday.

As previously reported, on June 12 at 11:53 p.m., a male entered Flagway Gas Station, 203 Jefferson St., Greenfield, and pointed a black handgun at the clerk and demanded money.

The clerk opened the register and the suspect reached in and took an undetermined amount, according to Hester.

The suspect then fled the store on foot and had last been seen running on North Street toward Paint Creek.

Officers arrived on the scene and after interviewing several witnesses determined the suspect to be Smith, 26, of Greenfield. Smith is 5’09”, 150 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
