Sen. Portman, Brad Wenstrup discuss jobs, economy on southern Ohio tour

WEST UNION – U.S. Senator Rob Portman and candidate for Congress Brad Wenstrup today traveled throughout Southwestern Ohio discussing jobs and meeting business, community and Republican leaders.
The two conservative Republican leaders met with approximately 50 supporters for a noon luncheon at the historic Wayside Inn in West Union.
They will wrap up today's tour this evening at Alley 21 in Hillsboro, where Highland County Commissioner Shane Wilkin will introduce Sen. Portman.
Portman said it was a priority to keep a dialogue open with Ohioans.
"Folks in southern Ohio are rightly concerned about the path Washington is headed down with record deficits and a weak economy. Today was a great chance to hear ideas on how to turn things around," Portman said.
Wenstrup, who's getting married on Saturday, explained that the tour was too important to miss.
"Senator Portman is working hard under difficult circumstances," Wenstrup said. "What I hear across Southwestern Ohio is that we need to keep fighting for lower taxes and less spending to give Senator Portman some help so he can cut through the Senate gridlock."
The tour is reaching five counties – Brown, Adams, Scioto, Pike and Highland, where Portman and Wenstrup are listening to community leaders' concerns and ideas.
"I'm proud to join Brad on this tour through the the second district," Portman said.
"Brad will make a great Congressman and I look forward to working with him to help create the climate for new jobs in Southern Ohio."

About Dr. Wenstrup
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati and going on to earn a medical degree, Lt. Col. Dr. Wenstrup established a private practice in Cincinnati and has been treating patients in southwest Ohio for over 24 years.
In 1998, seeing signs of freedom being threatened, Wenstrup accepted an officer’s commission with the U.S. Army Reserve, serving in the Medical Service Corps.
In 2005, he deployed for a year of active duty in Iraq where he served as a Combat Surgeon with the 344th Combat Support Hospital. For his service and actions in Iraq, Wenstrup was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge. Wenstrup continues his service in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Following his deployment to Iraq, Wenstrup saw a need for strong conservative leadership in Cincinnati. In 2009, Wenstrup built a strong grassroots coalition and ran for Mayor of Cincinnati. Since 2009, Wenstrup has continued actively supporting the war against terror and reducing the size of government while opposing legislation such as Obamacare.
Being involved in the community has always been important to Wenstrup. He volunteered for 14 years as part of the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters organization. Additionally, he is currently a Board Member of Boys Hope/ Girls Hope, member of the Cincinnati Rotary and the Founder and President of Thank America First Foundation.
