Scioto County grand jury indicts Greenfield man on kidnapping, assault charges
PORTSMOUTH - A grand jury in Scioto County Common Pleas Court has handed down an indictment against a Greenfield man on charges of felonious assault, kidnapping and soliciting.
Stephen Drummond, 29, was initially arrested by the Greenfield Police Department in March on a charge of kidnapping, stemming from an alleged incident Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Police Detective Jim Charles told The Highland County Press in March that a woman had reported to police that she had allegedly been held in a building in downtown Portsmouth by a man that was later identified as Drummond.
"She entered the building of her own free will," Charles said.
While inside the building, Drummond reportedly asked her to go to the basement area, Charles said. Once they were downstairs, he allegedly assaulted the woman. The woman was later able to leave the structure and flagged down a vehicle on Chillicothe Street, which brought her to the PPD.

Immediately following that incident, Charles said that Drummond made a report to the PPD that individuals had broken into the building.
Charles said that Drummond rents a portion of the building in question. When police arrived, Charles said, through investigation they determined that the two incidents were apparently related, and investigators found evidence from the alleged victim in the basement of the structure.
Drummond was later arrested by the Greenfield Police Department on an outstanding warrant from Portsmouth.
On Monday, the grand jury in Scioto County returned an indictment, that included charges of first-degree felony kidnapping; second-degree felony assault and two misdemeanor counts of soliciting. A warrant was then issued for his arrest, according to the website of the Scioto County Clerk of Courts Office.
Drummond, who owns businesses in the Portsmouth area and in Greenfield, was arraigned Tuesday in Scioto County Common Pleas Court, where he entered a not guilty plea. Bond was set at $50,000.
He is being represented by attorney Rick Faulkner.
