Safety/service director terminated with option to stay for 90 days
Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings has announced, effective immediately, Richard Giroux has been terminated from his position as Hillsboro Safety and Service director.
Giroux is currently considering a 90-day administrative contract offered by the mayor, according to a news release from the mayor.
"The contract was offered to assist both Mr. Giroux and the city of Hillsboro during this period of transition," Hastings said.
Hastings informed Hillsboro City Council at its Dec. 10 meeting that an announcement would be made on Dec. 11 regarding the safety and service director's position.
Hastings had placed Giroux on an indefinite unpaid leave of absence after he was convicted in Hillsboro Municipal Court of a Nov. 25 charge of operating a vehicle while impaired.
According to Hillsboro Municipal Court, Giroux was fined $650 and will have his driver's license suspended from Nov. 25, 2012-May 25, 2013. He will have driving privileges with proof of insurance. Giroux also must complete a driver intervention program within six months and obtain counseling.
Giroux, 51, of Westover Drive, Hillsboro, was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 25 by the Hillsboro Police Department.

According to court records, Giroux tested .188 on a DUI Breathalizer test, which is more than twice the legal limit in Ohio.
Hillsboro Municipal Court Judge David McKenna recused himself. Highland County Court/Madison Township Judge Robert Judkins heard the case.
Giroux was represented by Hillsboro attorney Bill Armintrout.
Giroux was appointed safety and service director in January 2012 by Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings.
