Safety/Service Director guilty of OVI charge

Hillsboro Safety and Service Director Richard Giroux has been found guilty of his Nov. 25 charge of operating a vehicle while impaired.

According to Hillsboro Municipal Court, Giroux was fined $650 and will have his driver's license suspended from Nov. 25, 2012-May 25, 2013. He will have driving privileges with proof of insurance. Giroux also must complete a driver intervention program within six months and obtain counseling.

Hillsboro Municipal Court Judge David McKenna recused himself. Highland County Court/Madison Township Judge Robert Judkins heard the case.

Giroux was represented by Hillsboro attorney Bill Armintrout.

Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings has placed Safety Service Director Rick Giroux on an indefinite unpaid leave of absence.

Giroux was arrested on a charge of OVI late Sunday evening by the Hillsboro Police Department.

Giroux, 51, of Westover Drive, Hillsboro, also was charged with failing to obey a traffic device, according to Hillsboro Municipal Court records.

According to court records, Giroux tested .188 on a DUI Breathalizer test.

Giroux was appointed safety and service director in January 2012 by Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings.
