On Sunday morning at approximately 9:20 a.m., Highland County sheriff’s dispatch received a call of a serious head-on crash involving two vehicles on S.R. 73 north of Diven Road.
Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS, along with sheriff’s deputies, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, EMS personnel found a two-vehicle crash with occupants of both vehicles entrapped.
Fire and EMS personnel worked to extricate the victims of both vehicles who were then transported by ambulance to Highland District Hospital.
Both vehicles received major disabling damage and Route 73 remained closed while the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Highland County sheriff’s deputies completed their investigations and the vehicles could be removed from the scene.
Nancy E. Puckett, 46, of New Vienna was killed in the accident. A Winchester woman also sustained injuries.
Highway conditions were snow covered and it is unknown at this time whether road conditions contributed to the cause of this accident.
State Route 73 in Highland County was closed near the 6.6-mile marker and Diven Road, north of Hillsboro, due to this accident. It re-opened at approximately 12:50 p.m. Sunday, ODOT said.
The accident remains under investigation.
