Rosenberger mentioned as House speaker candidate
Ohio Rep. Cliff Rosenberger, R-Clarksville, who represents Highland County in the 91st House District, has been mentioned as a candidate for Ohio House speaker.
According to a Columbus Dispatch report, Rosenberger, 32, and Rep. Ron Amstutz, 62, "have emerged — at least at the moment — as the top candidates to replace Speaker William G. Batchelder, R-Medina, when he must depart the House because of term limits at the end of 2014.æ
A formal leadership vote is more than 15 months away.
Rosenberger is currently serving his second term at the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 91st House District, which includes Clinton, Highland and Pike counties, and parts of Ross County.
Rosenberger is a United States Air Force veteran assigned to the 113th fighter wing of the Air National Guard, which he enlisted in shortly after graduating from Clinton Massie High School. Though originally stationed in Springfield with the 178th Fighter Wing, he transferred to the 113th Fighter Wing of the District of Columbia after accepting a position with the White House in February 2007.
He has also served as the national political events coordinator for Governor Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, and Special Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Interior, Dirk Kempthorne.
He also served as the representative for the village to the Clinton County Republican Central Committee from 2004-10.
Amstutz represents the 1st Ohio House District, which includes all of Wayne County.

A lifelong resident of Wayne County, Amstutz was raised on a dairy farm between Dalton and Kidron. In 1971, he moved to Orrville and has lived in Wooster since 1981. His political career began in 1976 when he was elected Mayor of the City of Orrville. He held the position through 1980, when he ran successfully for the Ohio House of Representatives.
Amstutz’s experience in the Legislature includes numerous leadership and committee assignments, including Assistant Majority Whip and Chairman of the House Finance and Appropriations Committee.
Prior to his career in public service, Amstutz worked for five years in the Orrville office of The Daily Record. After working as a writer and photographer for two years, he was quickly promoted to bureau editor.
Amstutz is a graduate of Central Christian High School and holds his bachelor’s degree in government communications from Capital University.
