Rocky Fork officials looking to reduce theft, vandalism

Due to an increase in thefts and vandalism of privately owned boats docked at Rocky Fork State Park, officials are working to establish a new program of increased security.
After receiving public input, park officials are looking at options that may include some limits on access to the docks. The docks are rented by boat owners who have been victimized by increasing levels of property thefts and vandalism. The park has stepped up law enforcement patrols as part of an increased security presence.
[[In-content Ad]]The park is seeking to balance the interests of boat owners who rent the dock and expect controlled access to their private property and park visitors who have traditionally had open access to the docks.
"We are attempting to develop a program that will allow boat owners to feel that their property is being protected while maintaining as much access to the docks as possible," said Jeff Boester, manager of the Southwest District state parks.
Fishing is currently permitted from all state docks, sea walls, fishing piers and shoreline areas.
