Resurfacing projects win top paving award
The Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 and two of its contractors have been recognized for outstanding performances following resurfacing projects in Adams, Brown and Pike counties.
ODOT District 9’s Construction Department and the Shelly Company received the 2012 Quality Award for Asphalt Paving from the Flexible Pavements of Ohio Association for resurfacing projects on state Route 32 in Adams and Pike counties. Similarly, District 9 and the John R. Jurgenson Company were honored with a 2012 Quality Award for the resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation on U.S. Route 62/68 in Brown County.
“We have an outstanding team of engineers, inspectors and technicians working throughout the district, so the recognition from Flexible Pavements is appreciated,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson. “I offer my congratulations to our crew and the contractors for their efforts to deliver successful, high quality projects that will preserve our system and serve the traveling public well.
The district’s construction teams worked in tandem with the contractors to assure quality control for materials, workmanship and smooth riding quality. While the S.R. 32 projects were completed during the 2012 construction season, the Brown-62/68 project was completed in late 2011.
Leading the 6.73-mile, four-lane Adams-32 resurfacing project for ODOT were Eric Smith, transportation engineer, and highway technicians Mick Foster and Scott Edmisten, and Dan Beasley was the area field engineer.

And in a separate project on S.R. 32, Transportation Engineer Jason Bednarczyk, highway technicians Mitch Fite and Dale Hays, and Area Field Engineer Victor Picciano represented ODOT District 9’s Construction Department as the Shelly Company undertook a 6.85-mile overlay project of the route in Pike County.
Along with these projects, the Construction Department and its contractors, the Jurgenson Company, were recognized for the project to rehabilitate bridges and resurface U.S. Route 62/68 between U.S. 52 at Ripley and S.R. 353 in Brown County. Joining Smith and Beasley from ODOT District 9 were highway technicians Brent Davis and Gary Shannon.
Flexible Pavements of Ohio is an association for the development, improvement and advancement of quality asphalt pavement construction. The organization provides technical information and training for its members and customers on asphalt pavement design, production and construction.
