Rep. Wenstrup: 'Sen. Menendez should resign immediately'

Today, Rep. Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M., released the following statement in reaction to the conviction of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) who was found guilty on federal bribery charges. He was accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars including pure gold bars in bribes in exchange for wielding his influence to benefit foreign governments.

Additionally, shortly after the verdict, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called on Menendez to "do what is right for his constituents, the Senate, and our country, and resign”.

“Public trust is fundamental to the functioning of our democracy. It has now become clear that Sen. Menendez not only has broken that trust, but has committed serious crimes in the pursuit of self-enrichment,” said Rep. Brad Wenstrup.

“It is imperative that all elected leaders are held to highest ethical standards and that decisive action is taken when those standards are breached. Yesterday, we witnessed some accountability with the conviction of Sen. Menendez. I echo the Senate Majority Leader and his call that Sen. Menendez should resign immediately.”
