Reorganized Historical Society board holds first meeting

The Highland County Historical Society Board met in open session on Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Highland House Museum on East Main Street in Hillsboro.
The purpose of the meeting was to re-organize and select board positions and committee chairs for the Historical Society.
Ten of the 12 newly elected board members were present. They were elected at the annual board meeting a week earlier.
Present were Pamela Nickell, Rose Ryan, Shelly Stratton, Jean Wallis, John Kellis, Dr. Larry Dukes, Kay Ayres, Avery Applegate, Vicki Knauff and Mike Shanahan. Absent and excused were Lana Daniels and Caroyl Reid.
Also in attendance were Mike McCarty, president of the Society; Arlene Huffman, vice president of the Society; John Glaze, webmaster/editor of the society's newsletter; and Paulette Donley, acting secretary.[[In-content Ad]]
Bob Hodson, presiding officer of the society, presided, as the board chose Nickell as chairman of the Board, Stratton as vice-chair and Ryan as treasurer. Hodson reminded the board of the importance of following the bylaws, which had been replaced by vote of the membership at the annual meeting on Oct. 17.
As board chair, Nickell assigned committee chairs and thanked the board members for their service on the board.
Wallis announced an upcoming event at the museum. Board members Stratton, Knauff and Jean Wallis were appointed to chair the event, which will be a Christmas Open House on Dec. 8 from 1-5 p.m. at the Highland House Museum. All society members and the public are cordially invited.
