A Hillsboro man charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs who pleaded guilty in April to a bill of information on the third-degree felony charges and a forfeiture specification has been sentenced.

Gregory Rand, 36, of Hillsboro was charged, on two separate occasions, with selling or offering to sell oxycodone in an amount equal to or exceeding one times the bulk amount and less than five times the bulk amount.

The first incident reportedly occurred on Dec. 22, 2012, while the second reportedly occurred on Jan. 21.

Rand waived prosecution by the indictment, and the prosecution presented a bill of information on the charges.

In Highland County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday, May 1, Rand was sentenced to 18 months in prison on each count, for a total of 36 months. The sentences are to run consecutively. He will serve his sentences at the Orient Corrections Center.

Rand entered his plea on April 5 in front of Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss. Rand appeared in court with his counsel, J.D. Wagoner.

Coss said that the two charges each had a maximum sentence of 36 months in prison with a minimum of nine months, with a maximum fine of $10,000, a mandatory $5,000 fine and a mandatory license suspension of six months to five years.

The state had recommended that Rand receive 18 months on each count.

In addition, the court ordered Rand's driver's license to be suspended for four years, effective immediately. He also was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and $4,770 in restitution.
