Prosecutor's office completing investigation into McClain 'puncture' incident

The Highland County Prosecutor's Office is anticipating completing an investigation into whether or not charges will be filed against a Washington C.H. teen in connection the alleged "pin-pricking" incident following a September Washington C.H. High School vs. Greenfield McClain High School football game.
Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins told The Highland County Press Monday that assistant prosecutor Molly Bolek has been attempting to contact all of the alleged victims, and anticipates concluding interviews Friday or early next week.
Following the Sept. 30 game, a number of McClain players complained to Head Coach Randy Closson about being cut or punctured by a sharp object during post-game handshakes, according to Greenfield Chief of Police Tim Hester. Hester said that through the course of the investigation it was determined that a 16-year-old male allegedly placed an object such as a tack in his glove and punctured the hands of the McClain players.
"What Molly has done is made a spreadsheet of all the victims and has attempted to contact all of them," Collins said. "There are some victims where maybe we only have the kid's cell phone number and they maybe are not telling their parents and are not returning calls. I think she has just five more people who she has not had contact with. Three people returned calls to us today."
The prosecutor's office, Collins said, has not made the determination yet if charges will be filed, but, "We are considering the charge, and so far the one that seems to fit the best is assault, but that is not for sure, 100 percent."
Collins said that there are 28 names that appear in the incident report from the Greenfield Police Department, but that not all of the alleged victims, "want to participate in the prosecution."
They are also still considering, Collins said, whether or not if charges are filed there would be one count, or counts for each victim.
"(Bolek) will probably have the complaint done within a week," Collins said.
If charges are filed, the juvenile would be assigned a hearing date in Highland County Juvenile Court.
