Primary Election Results: Mustard, Wilkin move on to general election WATCH THE VIDEO

Unofficial results are showing that Republican incumbent Shane Wilkin beat fellow GOP challenger Steve Cowdrey, while Paint Township Trustee Randy Mustard won over fellow Democrat Josh Patton Tuesday in the primary race for candidates for the Highland County Board of Commissioners. 

 

According to unofficial results from the Highland County Board of Elections, Wilkin, who is seeking his second term in office, received 3,435 votes, while Cowdrey received 1,862.

 

Mustard had 873 votes, and Patton received 462 votes, unofficially. 

 

Wilkin will face Democratic challenger Brenda Losey in the November general election. Losey currently holds a seat on the Greenfield Village Council. 

 

Mustard will face incumbent Republican Tom Horst, who is seeking his second term, in November. 

 

The final unofficial results are with all 31 Highland County Precincts reporting. The results include approximately 1,100 absentee and in-office voting ballots. Provisional ballots will be added in during the board's official count, which will take place before the end of March. 

 

Steve Witham, of the Highland County Board of Elections, said that there was a 26-percent turnout of all registered Highland County voters. There are 28,194 registered voters, he said, which includes 1,656 Democrats and 4,059 Republicans. 

 

The results of the first 10 precincts were released just prior to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and the second round of results was released at 9:18 p.m. Final cumulative results were released at 9:45 p.m.

 

In other contested county races, Republican Chad McConnaughey unseated Richard Counter in the race for Highland County Recorder, with 3,074 votes to 2,033 votes, unofficially.

 

Incumbent Vicki Warnock defended against challengers Ben Teeters and Debbie Zile in the race for Highland County Treasurer. Warnock received 2,583 votes, Zile received 1,541 votes and Teeters received 1,293 votes, unofficially. Warnock will face Democrat and former Highland County Commissioner Gary Heaton in November.
