Barack Obama won re-election for his second term as President of the United States Tuesday night, defeating Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
President Obama was unofficially projected with 303 electoral votes to Romney's unofficial total of 203. Two hundred and seventy electoral votes are needed to win the election.
In Highland County, Romney won unofficially 11,032-5,772.
Unofficially in Ohio, President Obama won 53,308,898 to 52,627,394 (50 percent to 49 percent).
Elected vice-president for the second time was Joe Biden.
President Obama, in his victory speech. thanked all Americans who voted.
"We know in our hearts for the United States of America the best is yet to come," Obama said.
"Whether you held an Obama sign or a Romney sign, you made your voice heard."
Obama also stated he learned from the voters, and he learned how to become a better president.
"Tonight (Tuesday) you voted for action, not politics as usual," Obama said in his speech in Chicago. "We have more work to do.

"America has never been about what can be done for us, but what can be done by us."
Obama ended his speech by stating, "We are not a collection of red states and blue states, but we are the United States of America."
In his concession speech, former Governor Romney said he called President Obama to congratulate him.
"I wish all of them well, but particularly the president, the first lady and his daughters," Gov. Romney said. "This is a time for great challenges for America, and I pray the president will be successful in guiding our nation.
Gov. Romney also thanked his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) during his speech in Boston, Mass.
"Besides my wife Ann, Paul Ryan is the best choice I've ever made," Romney stated. "And I trust his intellect, his hard work and his commitment to principle will continue to contribute to the good of our nation."
In the 2008 election, Obama defeated Republican John McCain.
