Plug into Mother Nature, install a Geothermal

On Saturday, Sept. 14, Shafer Heating and Cooling, LLC held their third annual Outdoor Wood Furnace and Geothermal Show at Lerch's Barnlot Equipment in Hillsboro.
The show featured various outdoor wood furnace models by Nature's Comfort and Hydron Module Geothermal systems.
According to Ron Shafer, owner and operator of Shafer's, "The advantages to using Geothermal is that they are 500-percent efficient, the payback period is between two and five years.
"They heat and cool your home, while providing hot water, tax credits through 2016, power company rebates up to $1,600, and they are safer for the environment."
Ron's wife, Peggy, was on hand for the event to answer any questions regarding financing, tax credits and power company rebates.

According to Peggy Shafer, "The tax credits are a very simple process. Once you pay your bill, we provide you with the proper paperwork; and when you file your taxes, you include the IRS Form 5695 and receive a 30-percent tax credit on the total bill."
The tax incentives are available through 2016 and can be used in more than one calendar year. Financing options also are available.
In addition to the tax incentives, local power companies are offering rebates. Dayton Power and Light is offering a $1,600 rebate to install a geothermal system and American Electric Power is offering a $700 rebate.
Shafer Heating and Cooling, located at 4496 Glaze Road, Hillsboro, has been offering heating and cooling needs throughout the county since 1985.
