Peterson named to Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission
Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R–Celina) this week named Senator Bob Peterson (R–Sabina) as a member of the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission.
The commission was formed by the Legislature in 2012 to study the Constitution of the State of Ohio and make recommendations for amendments and improvements.
“The constitution is one of the most sacred documents we have in deciding how to best govern our state,” said Peterson.
“As the commission studies the constitution, we need to balance our history and the founding principals that have made our government great, while also looking for new ways to keep Ohio strong and economically competitive with the rest of the country and world.”

Ohio’s constitution requires that the voters be given the opportunity to call a constitutional convention every 20 years to make any necessary changes to the state’s founding document.
A similar commission was formed in the 1970s to study the constitution in an effort to aid the General Assembly and the public better determine whether changes were necessary, and if so, what changes should be considered.
The Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission is charged with the following duties:
• Studying the Constitution of Ohio;
• Promoting an exchange of experiences and suggestions respecting desired changes in the Constitution;
• Considering the problems pertaining to the amendment of the Constitution; and,
• Making recommendations from time to time to the General Assembly for the amendment of the Constitution.
The commission meets on the second Thursday of every month.
Senator Bob Peterson represents the 17th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses all or part of Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, and Vinton Counties. He is the Chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on General Government.
