Former Major League Baseball player Dave "The Cobra" Parker was the guest speaker at the Hillsboro Rotary Tuesday afternoon.

Parker spoke about his work with youth baseball through his Mason Indoor Baseball program, and the importance of reaching out and being a father figure to inner city kids.

Baseball, Parker said, is a tool to keep kids off the streets and out of trouble, and he tries to be a father figure to the athletes in his program.

"If it wasn't for baseball, I could have gone the other way," Parker said. "Someone reached out to me, so I try to reach out to them."
During his introduction of Parker, Rotarian Terry Collins made a joke about Parker and Pete Rose. Parker then joked that Rose was a good guy. "He's deserves to be in the hall of fame. I do too!"

More information on his program can be found at masonindoorbaseball.com.
