OSHP investigating fatal crash on U.S. 62

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a double fatal crash at U.S. 62 south of Hillsboro at Dunlap Road that occurred at approximately 2:29 p.m. Wednesday, July 18.
The Highland County Sheriff's Office, the Hillsboro Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Hillsboro Fire Department, Lynchburg Fire Department, CareFlight and the Highland County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.
A white 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Mildred L. Tumbleson, 85, of Hillsboro, was northbound on US Rt 62. Tumbleson allegedly failed to maintain control of her vehicle and traveled left of center, striking a southbound vehicle head-on. The southbound vehicle, a white 2010 Toyota Camry was being operated by Rosemary C. Barnhart, 74, also of Hillsboro. Tumbleson and her passenger, Velma M. West, 91, of Hillsboro were killed upon impact. Barnhart was transported to The University of Cincinnati Hospital via Care-Flight, where she later died as a result of her injuries.
Numerous witnesses stated they observed Tumbleson’s vehicle traveling northbound on US Rte. 62 at approximately 55 mph. Tumbleson was weaving from side to side, and finally traveled left of center, striking Barnhart's Toyota Camry head-on.
No alcoholic beverages or illegal narcotics are suspected at this time in the investigation. All individuals involved were wearing their safety belts.
The incident remains under investigation.
