One man in custody after Route 41 crash

One person is in custody after fleeing from a serious accident in southern Fayette County Wednesday.
A white Dodge Intrepid, which deputies say was driven by Zachary Paul of Washington Court House, was traveling south on S.R. 41, when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed through a utility pole on Route 41 just north of S.R. 753.
Witnesses at the scene say Paul was driving at an extremely fast rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing his car to travel off the right side of the road into a ditch and striking the pole.
After hitting the pole in the center of the front bumper, the car continued to travel approximately 100 yards down the ditch line, where it came to rest at the next utility pole.

According to the witnesses, Paul exited the vehicle and stood on the road talking with them as he surveyed the damage. He told the bystanders that he was not hurt but that he “…couldn’t stick around,” and they watched as he began running down Highway 41.
Paul ran just past the old Mini Bar and left the road, according to Paul Daugherty, and ran across the field toward Beatty Road.
Daugherty states that he was sure he was headed for Beatty Road. Deputies immediately canvassed the area and were able to locate Paul and take him into custody as he walked in a ditch line just inside Highland county.
Fayette County EMS was on scene and evaluated Paul, who was not injured.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s office, Paul was driving without a valid driver’s license.
Route 41 was reduced to one lane as the accident was cleared up. Paul was taken into custody at the scene.
