Ohio Task Force 1 mobilizing in preparation for Hurricane Debby
Ohio Task Force 1 (OH-TF1) has received activation orders to mobilize as a Type III team in the wake of Hurricane Debby’s formation in the Gulf of Mexico.
The National Hurricane Center has warned that Hurricane Debby could drench Florida with over foot of rain and a three to five foot storm surge in some areas. Flash and urban flooding, as well as some isolated river flooding, may all be possible through Wednesday morning. The early activation of OH-TF1 will have them in the area should they be needed.
The team will deploy 47 members skilled in the various aspects of search and rescue operations as well as HazMat, medical, logistics, safety, communications and planning. Additionally, two K-9 handlers and their K-9 partners will be part of the 47 member team.
The team will be headed to the Atlantic Coast for staging. Their specific destination is yet to be determined.
Activated yesterday, Tennessee Task Force 1 is currently en route. Virginia Task Forces 1 and 2 are also being deployed.
