Multiple departments respond to Greenfield fire

GREENFIELD – Fire alarms sounded at 10:24 p.m. Monday, July 22 as calls came into the Highland County Sheriff's Office dispatch center reporting a large structure fire at the corner of North and Fourth streets in Greenfield.
Crews from Paint Creek Fire/EMS and the Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District in Leesburg were first to respond.
Upon arrival, they found the front of the large house fully engulfed in flames.

Additional calls were made to the Washington Court House Fire Department and to the Wayne Township Fire Department in Good Hope for mutual aid.
Due to the size of the house, Washington Fire was requested to respond with their ladder truck which made it much easier for firefighters to gain access to the second story and roof structures where the fire was burning.
Working together, the four departments were able to get the fire under control in approximately an hour.
As the smoke cleared and fire apparatus was moved out of the way, heavy damage to the front of the house became apparent.
Fire officials on scene stated that the house was not occupied at the time of the fire.
Suzy Lemons, who was in the process of moving some things out of the house, describes those first terrifying moments when she saw the house was on fire.
"I was just driving up the street and saw flames coming out. I pulled up right in front and just jumped out ran and tried to call 911, but it went up really quick. My husband passed away in April and all his belongings were in there."
According to fire chief Bradley George of the Paint Creek Fire Department, the cause of the fire has not been determined and an investigation will be ongoing.
There were no injuries reported and the damage to the structure is undetermined at the this time.
