Miami Valley Youth Career Services announces $10,000 contribution from AT&T to Whiteoak High School
Representatives from Miami Valley Youth Career Services and AT&T Ohio attended the Wednesday, Oct. 23 meeting of the Highland County Board of Commissioners and made a $10,000 check presentation to Whiteoak High School.
Whiteoak Jobs for Ohio Graduates Director Kathy Dietz accepted the check on behalf of the Bright Local School District and expressed her appreciation.
"Thank you very much," Dietz said. "This will help send two Whiteoak students to Washington, D.C. for the Leadership Conference and will assist in funding for the Leadership Development Training at Butler Springs."
“The funding provided by AT&T will help us continue our mission at Whiteoak High School to prepare youth to successfully transition from a diploma to a career and become contributing, self-sufficient, responsible citizens.” said John McConnell, executive director of Miami Youth Career Services.
Miami Valley Youth Career Services works with more than a dozen schools and educational organizations in Montgomery, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland Counties to identify at-risk and underserved high school students who then receive specialized attention, guidance and tutoring that will help them successfully graduate high school.
After high school graduation students receive a year of additional mentoring to assist them in finding employment or continuing their education.
In a news release from Holly Hollingsworth, senior public relations consultant for AT&T Ohio, State Rep. Cliff Rosenberger said: “There is no greater investment that any organization can make than in the education of Ohio’s future leaders.
"The work of Miami Valley Youth Career Services at Whiteoak High School is to be commended, as it keeps our youth on track to graduate high school and prepare them to succeed in college and the workforce.”
Mark Romito, external affairs director for AT&T Ohio, said: “Keeping our teenagers in high school and preparing them for success after graduation benefits our students and our communities. Miami Valley Youth Career Services has a proven graduation strategy that is helping at-risk youth stay in school and succeed academically. We are proud to support this program.”
Highland County Commission President Shane Wilkin thanked AT&T and Miami Valley Youth Career Services for their contributions to the Bright Local School District.
