Man leads officers on high-speed chase; charged with assaulting K-9
A Hillsboro man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly led officers on a high-speed chase through city and county roads, and then fled through a field. He was taken into custody after he was tracked down by a K-9 unit.
Among the multiple charges he is facing, he was charged with assaulting a police K-9 unit.
On Saturday, June 2 at approximately 2:38 a.m., a Hillsboro police officer heard a vehicle with a loud exhaust accelerate rapidly from the uptown area.
The vehicle was traveling at high rate of speed on South High Street and left town southbound on Route 62. The officer pursued the vehicle south on Route 62 at a high rate of speed. While on New Market Road, the vehicle went into the ditch on the left side of the road, where the driver fled on foot.
Upon investigation, officers found that found John Wright was the person last known to be in possession of the vehicle. Greenfield's K-9 unit arrived to assist.
After tracking, the K-9 located the subject, he resisted being taken into custody. He was identified as John Wright, 33, of Hillsboro. Wright was arrested on charges of OVI, driving under suspension, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, assault on a police K-9, resisting arrest and failing to comply.
