Man arrested after threatening neighbor with handgun replica
A Hillsboro man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened to kill an area man with a toy handgun that had been altered to look like a real weapon.
On Saturday, officers with the Hillsboro Police Department responded to the 300 block of North East Street in reference to a call of a male with a handgun.
When officers arrived, a male was seen holding a handgun in his right hand, waving it in the air. When the male observed the officer, he fled on foot. Officers gave verbal commands to stop and lay on the ground, but the male continued to flee officers by running through the backyard of his residence.
Officers were able to apprehend the male and found that he had allegedly threatened to kill a man for some missing property.
During the chase, he had thrown a knife into the neighbor's backyard and handgun down in his own backyard. It was later found that the handgun was a toy replica of a handgun. The orange safety marking on the replica that distinguishes it from a real handgun had been painted over with black paint.

The male was identified as Garrett Long, 34, of Hillsboro.
Long was arrested and is being charged with felony possession of a concealed weapon, felony obstructing official business and misdemeanor aggravated menacing.
Long was transported to the Highland County Justice Center and is to be arraigned Monday, June 4 at the Hillsboro Municipal Court.
