Legislation honoring Zachary Gullett, other soldiers, passes in the House

COLUMBUS - State Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) has announced that House Bill 65, which honors Ohioans from across the state, passed from the Ohio House of Representatives with unanimous support. 

 

House Bill 65 incorporates the designation of 13 memorial highways, three of which honor individuals from the 86th House District:  the "Pfc. Zachary Gullett Memorial Highway" along U.S. Route 50 in Highland County, the "Sgt. Steven Conover ­ Veterans Memorial Highway" along State Route 73 in Clinton County, and the "Lance Cpl. Brett Wightman ­ Veterans Memorial Highway" along State Route 729 within Clinton County. 

 

"House Bill 65 is an important piece of legislation and a strong reminder to all of us of the sacrifices made by the service men and women of our nation every day," Rosenberger said. "Three soldiers from my district, Sergeant Steven Conover, Lance Corporal Brett Wightman, and Private First Class Zachary Gullett, made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom, and this small sign of respect is the least that we can all do to honor their memories." 

 

Pfc. Gullett of Hillsboro was serving in the 984th MP Company of the U.S. Army when he died in Baghdad on May 1, 2007. Sgt. Conover of Wilmington, who was serving in the 82nd Airborne Field Artillery, Charlie Battery, was killed near Fallujah on Nov. 2, 2003. Lance Cpl. Wightman of Sabina was serving with the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines when he was killed near Hadithah in Iraq. 

 

House Bill 65 now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
