HPD investigates accident involving truck, pedestrian at North High Street business

The Hillsboro Police Department is investigating a one-vehicle accident involving a pedestrian that occurred Nov. 17 in the parking lot of a North High Street business.

According to the HPD crash report, at 6:44 p.m., a pedestrian was leaving the business when a 2022 Ford F-250 operated by John W. Holbrook, 59, of Wilmington allegedly struck the pedestrian. It was reported that the pedestrian was “knocked to the ground at a low rate of speed.”

Holbrook advised that he was “traveling at approximately one or two MPH" and that he had been “distracted by other passersby to his right and did not see the pedestrian,” the crash report says.

The store provided video footage to the police department. The responding police officer wrote that “it appeared [the driver] drove over a part or portion of the pedestrian’s body and proceeded to reverse away from her,” the report says. “The video footage was consistent with [the driver’s] account of the incident.”

The pedestrian, a 45-year-old female, was transported from the scene to Highland District Hospital.

No charges have been filed, according to the report and Hillsboro Municipal Court records.
