Horse destroyed after car crashes head-on into buggy

No serious injuries were reported, but a horse had to be put down after a car went left-of-center and crashed head-on into a buggy on Harriet Road.

According to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the car, Jeffrey E. Tedford, was arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant out of Clinton County. He was later cited by the OSHP with driving under suspension, going left of center and a seatbelt violation.

Tedford is scheduled to appear in Hillsboro Municipal Court on May 7.

Trooper Amy Pennington, said the incident occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday on Harriet Road.

"The vehicle was heading north, and the horse and buggy were heading south," Pennington said. "The car went left of center and struck the horse head-on." 

There were two occupants in the buggy, and Pennington said one complained of a bump on his head and the other complained of having lower back pain, but both refused medical treatment at the scene.

Pennington said that after a neighbor assessed the injuries the horse had sustained, the neighbor shot it, and it was removed from the scene by a forklift.
