Hillsboro Street Department buildings 'ransacked'

The Hillsboro Street Department Building on Railroad Street was entered and "ransacked," Saturday, with an unknown number of items stolen. 

The Hillsboro Police Department reported that at approximately 8:43 a.m. Saturday "an employee with the city of Hillsboro found that two buildings at the street department complex were entered overnight. Subjects ransacked the offices and entered most of the vehicles that were parked inside the buildings and stole a yet still undetermined amount of property belonging to the city." 

Hillsboro Safety and Service Director Ralph Holt said that he and street department superintendent Steve Pence met and viewed the property and damage.

"They went through Steve's office and the lower building where they keep the equipment," Holt said. "They took at least a couple of chainsaws, but at this time we don't know what else might have been taken."

In Pence's office, "they emptied his desk and files all over the floor," Holt said.

Holt said that the HPD is still investigating the matter, including determining what might have been taken, and how they entered the facility. 

"On the north side of the building there is an area underneath the privacy fence, and they think that's how they got in," Holt said. "It appears they opened a window in Steve's office and gained entrance to the building that way. The lower building, where they keep the equipment, it looks like they got a window opened in there."
