Hillsboro mayor organizing tribute to Armed Forces veterans

Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink is organizing a tribute of veterans of the U.S. Armed forces so that residents of Hillsboro can have a chance to thank them for their services to the nation, and community. 

 

"Dec. 7, 2011 marks the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor," Zink said. "We will be holding a veterans recognition day at Hillsboro High School to honor all veterans of Hillsboro and Highland County. The program will start at 7 p.m."

 

Zink made the announcement of the program during the October meeting of the Hillsboro City Council held Oct. 11. All arrangements on the program have not been completed, he said, but should be finalized by the November council meeting. The mayor said that he is working with Hillsboro City Schools Superintendent Ricky Earley, and the director of the high school band. 

 

"We're looking forward to being able to honor all the veterans of Highland County," Zink said. 

 

Zink encouraged anyone with ideas for the program to contact him at (937) 393-5219.

 

"We have Veterans Day and Memorial Day and other celebrations," Zink said, "but I want to give them the opportunity to stand up and be recognized for the service they have give to our country. I would like to just be able to say 'thank you' and let them know we appreciate what they have sacrificed, and I think that other residents of Hillsboro probably would like to say the same thing."
